How to prepare for the best presentation ?

Presentations are the best way to introduce an idea to your audience. It makes your life easier if you have all the details dotted down, planned and organized. Regardless of your presentation needs, organizing your thoughts and then compiling them, will not only make sure that you nail your presentation but also answer the questions after that. Now here is a 4-step process to make sure you organize your thoughts.

Step 1

As you sit down to prepare for your presentation, there would be millions of ideas running in your head. But stop right there, think for a minute. A presentation is not only slides transitioning from left, right and center. It’s about the message you want your audience to take away from the presentation.

So, before adding all the boring stats, facts and figures. Pause and think about the narrative that will be delivered, why it’s done? in what order it is done? etc.

Write these down on paper. This will help you get back to the purpose of the presentation, even when you are lost in the middle of the presentation.

Step 2

Now that you have written down all the important pieces of information. Highlight the points that are important. Now pick these key points and have the rest of the information for you to refer in the Q and A session.

Step 3

Make sure you know your audience. Remember this is the most important part of preparing for a presentation. Addressing the board of directors and your team is different. Your topic selection, the language you use, and the examples you give to illustrate points. It will all be different.

The little bits of humor included should be tailored specifically with your target audience in mind. If you know all your audience then it will be easier for you to persuade them towards your goal.

Step 4

Now that you have all the information, rehearse your presentation. Well, some might think it is way too early. But trust us, it’s not. As you rehearse you will know where you need to emphasis more and which topics need some more content. Try practicing in front of a mirror, if you have stage fright.

If you have passed these steps, then congratulations you have already passed the first hurdle in making the best presentation. Stay tuned to learn more…
